About David Gbenda
A sixth-year linebacker with over 50 career games under his belt, Gbenda brings experience, leadership, and toughness to every snap. Since making his collegiate debut against Louisiana Tech in 2019, he’s steadily carved out a major role on defense, earning 16 career starts. In 2024, he opened the season strong with a four-tackle performance against Colorado State and continued to make an impact, tallying seven tackles against top-10 ranked Michigan and leading the team with eight stops and a sack in the SEC-opening win over Mississippi State.
A standout long before college, Gbenda was an All-American and all-state honoree in high school, earning national recognition as a participant in the 2019 Under Armour All-America Game. A two-time all-district selection and a 2018 All-USA Texas second team member, he also earned a spot among Dave Campbell’s Texas Football “Tops in Texas” first-team linebackers. Off the field, his dedication shows as a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
